The U.S. Department of Agriculture (sponsored by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture) has awarded a research grant for a project aimed at introducing Hispanic high school students to the fields of nutrition and food biotechnology.

Venkatesh Balan, PhD, Assistant Professor in the College of Technology will be leading the project titled "Prepare Next Generation of Hispanic Students for Career in Food Biotechnology". , PhD, RD, FAND, Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance will be participating in this project. This project will provide $275,000 over 4 years to offer high school students workshops, experiential learning activities (summer camp), and a college scholarship to introduce and encourage Hispanic students to enter the nutrition and food biotechnology fields.
