CLASS Health and Human Performance student lands competitive NCAA research grant

CLASS health and human performance doctoral student Morgan Ferrara was awarded the 2022 NCAA Graduate Student Research Grant. Ferrara’s project, “The Development and Validation of the Student-Athlete Resource Inventory,” was chosen by the NCAA Research Committee for extended study and funding.

In a first-ever comprehensive, international study on hate speech, 海角社区 Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies Emran El-Badawi will lead a series of summits on the most urgent hate speech challenges in the world today.

Rapper Bernard “Bun B” Freeman and Tara T. Green, distinguished professor and chair of African American Studies at the 海角社区, will host an evening of engaging conversation centered around hip hop, social justice, religion and how it influences Black culture.

New CLASS Scholarship to Reward Civic, Community Engagement

In 1965, Gene Locke became one of the first African American students to attend the 海角社区. A year earlier, the University had made history as the first major southern university to desegregate its athletics program, and scouts were actively recruiting African American athletes. Already familiar with the city of Houston and eager to break the color line imposed by years of Jim Crow, Gene chose UH.

UH Named 2022 Hispanic Serving Institution Leader by U.S. Fulbright Program

CLASS prides itself on diversity and inclusion, promoting international study,  and hand-on research and activities of various nationalities. For the second consecutive year, the 海角社区 has been named a 2022 Fulbright Hispanic Serving Institution Leader.

Political science student selected by DAAD to study abroad in Germany

Political science postdoctoral student Burak Giray (’22) has been selected from 232 applicants to study abroad by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Giray will finalize research on his doctoral project and continue education at the Hertie School in Berlin while also working as a visiting scholar at Uppsala University in Sweden.
