Terry Hallmark

Terry Hallmark, after a very successful career in political risk assessment for the international oil and gas industries, began teaching for the Honors College in The Human Situation course and also upper-level seminar courses for Phronēsis in ancient, medieval, and early modern political philosophy, American political thought, and American foreign policy. For many years, he served as director of the Energy and Sustainability minor, teaching capstone courses. After more than a decade as a dedicated teacher and mentor in Honors, Dr. Hallmark is retiring. The generation of students who he has taught and mentored over the years have graduated and gone on to some of the finest doctoral programs and law schools in the nation. We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him on occasion back here in the Honors College at Phronēsis events!

Messages for Terry

Abbie Modaff

Thank you for being such a wonderful colleague, Terry. I wish you the very best with your next set of adventures and look forward to seeing you around Honors next spring!

Thank you for recognizing my own potential when I couldn't be bothered to see it. You're a challenging professor whose students are better for it. I would never have learned how to stomach folks that I disagree with if it wasn't for your mentorship! Oh and thanks for all the music recommendations :)

Terry, it was great to be podmates for those years I was in Honors. I remember fondly your many hours of discussion with students and colleagues (which I could not help but hear on account of our open door policy). But it was always fun to eavesdrop on your candid, challenging, and good humored conversations. While I doubt you'll be surfing like the old days, I hope you do find joy and fulfillment in your second (third?) retirement.
