Abstract

Recent years have witnessed an unprecedented interest in the analysis and generation of images and image sequences using Computer Vision methodologies. In this talk we will first show some of our recent works in analysis of images sequences with applications on video retrieval, few shot action recognition and affect recognition. Methodologically, we will present a framework for learning to compare image sequences and how knowledge distillation can be used to achieve different trade-offs between accuracy, speed and storage requirements. In the second part of the talk, we will present our recent work on controllable (facial) image generation that is based on the analysis of the latent space of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). We will give a brief introduction to GANs and then present two methods that find non-linear, interpretable directions in the latent space, so that edits along them can control image attributes such as pose, facial expressions and hair colour either in an unsupervised manner, or with guidance from Natural Language sentences.

About the Speaker

Ioannis (Yiannis) Patras is a professor in Computer Vision and Human Sensing in Queen Mary University of London. His research interests are in Computer Vision and Machine Learning methods, with a particular emphasis on applications in Multimedia Analysis and Affective Computing. He is/has been in the organizing committee of Int鈥檒 Conf. Multimedia Retrieval 2023, ACM Multimedia 202, MMM2020, Face and Gesture Recognition 2008, ICMR2011, ICMR2018, ACM Multimedia 2013, BMVC 2009 and was the general chair of WIAMIS 2009. He is associate editor in the journal of Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision and Image Understanding, and Area Chair in all major Computer Vision conferences including, CVPR, ICCV, FG, ICMI, ACII, and BMVC. He has more than 200 publications in the most selective Journals and conferences in the field of Computer Vision. He is a senior member of IEEE.
